What is Spinning?

Spinning has grown in popularity over the years for a number of reasons; it is a highly effective workout, the routines change which means the class keeps you on your toes, and people of all abilities can participate. You may have heard of it, or perhaps you’ve only just come across the name and want to find out more. We’re here to help!

What is it?

Spinning classes are an indoor cycle with a specific format, and different types of this class exist under different names, like our very own Ride Me. Classes are an aerobic workout and a fantastic way to get in shape. Spin workouts are vigorous and a fantastic way to burn calories, train before a bike event, or just keep your muscles toned and ready in the off-season. Spinning has grown in popularity over the years for a number of reasons; it is a highly effective workout, the routines change which means the class keeps you on your toes, and people of all abilities can participate.

Classes usually take place in a studio and last between 30-75 minutes, often with light and music variations to create a highly energised atmosphere. Your class instructor will take you through the routine in phases from sprints to hill climbs to cool down. The intensity of your workout is defined by several things, including the rate at which you pedal and the resistance. You are in control of the resistance levels on your bike, so essentially you can choose to make the workout as hard or as easy as you wish, so the key is finding what works for you. A good instructor will inspire you to push yourself and you’ll notice.

Who can Spin?

Anyone who wants a motivating workout that they can control at their own pace should try a Ride Me class. Even if you’re not a fan of bikes, spin classes are a great way to exercise because they do not require rhythm or complicated moves. It’s also a low-impact sport which makes it highly suitable for people who may have joint issues.
